On December 31 2021, Rachel le niece Wilks 29 years of age, called the Gainesville police department to remove someone from her home, but was told about the proper eviction process needed in order to do so. Later that evening, Rachel called the emergency line and told dispatchers that she shot her gun at her boyfriend, Brian, Rashad Brown, and self defense.

In this podcast episode, we are going to be speaking about a crime that was committed in Gainesville, Florida, we are going to be discussing self defense and also the topic of premeditation and how this all factors in in this developing case currently happening in Florida. This is the Karat Juice Podcast. I’m your host Montay Lee, if this is your first time listening, thank you leave a rating and review for the podcast if you enjoy this content. If you’re watching on YouTube, Like the video, I don’t want to waste your time. So I’m gonna get right into the content. So Miss Wilkes 29 years of age Gainesville, Florida woman. She called the police initially on December 31 2021 Because she wanted to remove someone from her property later on that evening. The cops come back for another call and they find Brian Rashad brown dead from an apparent gunshot wound to his temple. That’s the setup. What happens after that? We’re gonna go right to Yahoo News for the report please pregnant Gainesville woman 29 indicted on a first degree murder of her boyfriend. A Gainesville woman has been indicted for first degree murder for the shooting death of her then boyfriend. The State Attorney’s Office announced late Monday. That would have been April 11th. So yesterday, Rachel and nice Wilks 29 was arrested on February 1 After admitting to shooting Brian Rashad Brown. Wilks was reportedly pregnant with twins and Brown was believed to be the father.

Wilk said she was unaware that she killed Brown and said she did so in self defense. A grand jury and prosecutors say otherwise.

Why do they say otherwise? Apparently, Wilks provided inconsistent statements to investigators overall set over several months. A release from state attorney Brian Kramer’s office said initially Wilks called law enforcement to report the incident based on the evidence collected in the two month investigation. The aliqua County spring term grand jury returned a true bill.

On December 31 2021, Wilks called the police to remove someone from our home but was told about the proper eviction process as we said before, when the police showed up, they found Brian Brown with a single gunshot wound to his temple. Let’s continue on. According to interviews with the Gainesville Police Department officers were told that the two had a history of verbal and physical abuse by Miss Wilcox. She said brown threatened to kill her and her unborn children when she fired a gun. She says she did so with her eyes closed and fled the scene with her four children and didn’t know Browns status. She said her children did not witness the shooting. Investigators said there was no documented history of abuse between the parties, and she showed no injuries consistent with abuse.

Investigators also found issues with her story based on blood and the angle of the shot and believe Brown was on the ground when he was shot.

Investigators said there was no documented history of abuse between the parties and she showed no injuries. They also said they found issues with her story based on blood and the angle of the shot. You understand when

You’re dealing with these for these type of cases, these criminal cases, murder cases. There is a forensics team. They come down there’s a ballistics team, and they don’t just look at the shells. They look at the trajectory of the shells, where it entered, what angle they go into very, very specific detail to make sure all of it lines up with the person’s account, and all the evidence. Following her arrest on February 1, Wilks deviated from her story and said the victim bent down to pick up his phone before charging her and didn’t know why the evidence didn’t support her story.

According to an arrest report, one of the children interviewed also drew a picture of the shooting. So one of the children did actually witnessed the shooting. Despite what Miss Wilkes initially said. It goes on to say here county judge Miss Sean Rawls issued no bond for the charges. A trial date will be set at a later time.

So those are the facts. And what we have in this case, at this current moment,

there was a call a distress call.

police arrive.

No before that, before that Miss Wilks called says she wanted to remove somebody from her home. She was given the eviction process because if you have somebody living with you, you can’t just tell them to leave. If they actually are somebody that you’ve allowed to live there in most of the state’s laws, you need to get a official eviction. So she calls again, they come out for alleged domestic incident. And when they show up, Mr. Brown is dead gunshot to the temple and Miss Wilkes claiming self defense. Okay. Some of the facts. Some of the evidence is not lining up, according to the prosecution and the grand jury and she was indicted on first degree pre meditated murder. Let’s continue on. Woman charged that is a picture of Rachel Lynde nice Wilks right there. This is according to the aliqua Chronicle. This is the county where this happened. Rachel Wilks. 29 was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with first degree murder in the December 31 shooting death of her live in boyfriend he was living there. According to the arrest report, Wilks and the victim were in a dating relationship and live together with four with Wilks four other children. She is also reportedly pregnant with twins with the victim as the father, so she was working on six goodness Wilks had called the non emergency dispatch line at 9pm on December 31 2021, and asked to speak to an officer about removing someone from her residence. She reportedly refused to provide the address or give any details. An officer told her she would need to evict the person because he had established residence there. And her search history about an hour later reportedly showed her searching for eviction costs Gainesville, Florida so she was trying to get an eviction initially at about 11:45pm. On December 31, Wilks called 911 while driving to her parents house to drop off her children. She told dispatchers that she had discharged her weapon in self defense after her boyfriend had repeatedly attacked her. She says she did not know if her boyfriend was injured and asked for emergency medical services to check on him. That happened at 11:45pm. That is important in from piece of information at about 11:45pm On December 31 Miss Wilkes call 911 while driving to her parents house to drop off her children. She told dispatchers she had discharged her weapon and self defense at that point after her boyfriend had repeatedly attacked her remember, let’s remember back in the Yahoo report and the sources will be in the show notes as well as in the description. Remember the Yahoo report the initial report, the officers did not see any signs of abuse. Let’s continue on. She said she did not know if her boyfriend was injured and asked for emergency medical services for him. Upon arrival the Gainesville Police Department officers found the victim deceased and facedown in a pool of blood with a single gunshot wound to the right temple. He was lying on top of his phone and why would you not know if he was injured? If he got shot to the dome to the temple? Why would you not know somebody was injured if they were shot point blank in the head?

That that’s a that’s a question. I’m skeptical. Alright, let’s continue post Miranda rights. Wilkes repeatedly. Reportedly initially

stated that she and the victim had been an ongoing verbal and physical altercation since the previous night December 30. She described a long history of domestic violence, in which her boyfriend repeatedly struck her and threatened her life. She said she had taken her gun from her purse after being shoved into closet doors and then pin down on the bed. She told officers that she told the victim she would call the police if he didn’t leave the house. He refused and according to her, she said he would kill her and her unborn children Before police could arrive. She said he made threats of that nature. She also said that Mr. Brown charged across the room at her and she closed her eyes and fired the gun at him. So that’s her account of why the gun was fired. She said that Mr. Brown charged across the room at her she closed her eyes and fired the gun at him. It’s all about the facts. If you remember initially, in the initial report, she said let’s go back to that. She said initially when she fired a gun she had her eyes closed and fled the scene with her four children and did not know brown status. And she also said children did not witness the shooting.

And then initially, she said the victim she deviated from her story on February 1 and said the victim bent down to pick up his phone before charging her and did not know why the evidence didn’t support her story. Alright, let’s go back to the Ella Chua Chronicle article, which is the county article where this occurred. She described a long history of domestic violence, where she had been repeatedly struck and threatened for her life. She also indicated officers reported that Wilks did not have any injuries consistent with her account of physical abuse. And there was no history of calls regarding previous domestic violence incidents between the two this is important. She claimed a history of ongoing domestic violence, and there was no history of any calls regarding domestic violence between the two. The report shows that forensic evidence at the scene was inconsistent with Rachel Wilks story, including blood spatter and the location of the wound. There was a downward angle from the entrance home to where the bullet was located at the base of the school, which was not consistent with her story that the victim was standing and moving toward her. The angle is consistent with the victim kneeling or being below Wilks when he was shot. You see that?

Understand? If you got somebody charging at you, how would a bully go to their temple? They look at the angle they look at the trajectory the story is not adding up what really happened. Let’s continue. There’s more in a second pose after being Mirandized. On February 1 that’s being read or Miranda rights. Rachel Wilks reportedly changed her story multiple times from the first interview. For example, She told officers that when the victim saw her gun, he knelt down to pick up his phone with his back to her. She said he began to turn around tore her and said he would kill her. And then she shot him and fled the house. She admitted to being frustrated that the victim would not leave the house. However, she also denied knowing she had shot the victim and said she didn’t know why the forensic evidence did not match her story. As of the publishing of this podcast episode, Wilkes has been charged with first degree premeditated murder, and there is a trial date that is pending. So that sets the scene and that is what we’re dealing with here in regards to the story. And I thought that this topic in this particular case, is relevant. Because there are multiple stories currently going on in the culture on the news that has to do with domestic violence, incidents, altercations, reportedly or allegedly and there is a very popular case going on right now that’s getting a lot of attention involving Christian Obumseli, who was killed, he was killed in the case that involves Courtney Tailor, which is still a pending situation. And there’s a lot of people talking about that. And there’s a lot of people bringing up the fact that she was a white woman and he was a black man. I don’t think that’s relevant at all. I think people should choose who they want to be with. That shouldn’t matter. You should still get the right to have due process under the law. And if you are a victim of a crime, no matter what your preferences are, no matter who you choose to date, you are allowed that human dignity

Now on to this case, involving Miss Rachel Wilks and Brian Brown recipes to him. This is a black woman and a black man, which shouldn’t matter. But that is the case here, black man shot dead. In the house, she’s claiming self defense and a jury and prosecutors are not seeing the evidence stacking up and she was just charged with first degree premeditated murder. I will also add this, she is innocent until proven guilty. Like I say, with any case, as a pending case, I’m just laying out the facts don’t shoot the messenger. Those were the facts. That’s what’s going on in this case, and I’m gonna get my thoughts on it.

I think it’s dangerous, when people automatically just want to make up their mind on what they think is actually going on without getting any information without getting any evidence and just rushing automatically to believe what somebody’s telling them. I say no.

With any case, you see with anything that is going on in the public on the internet, especially when it involves crime, you need to be skeptical.

I am skeptical of everything. It’s not believe everybody. It’s listen to everything, investigate and believe all truth. Now there are holes in this woman’s story, the main one being that it looks like she wanted to get him out of the house. She wanted to get him out of the house, she called asked about that started doing some Google searches on how to get somebody out of the house. And then later on that same day, there’s a call about a domestic violence incident or issue and he ends up dead. I’m thinking that’s why the premeditation comes in. I think the premeditation comes in because she had a motive for him to not be there anymore. Am I saying she’s guilty? I don’t know, innocent until proven guilty. However, I am interested in seeing how people are going to react to this case, because the dynamics on it are a bit different. You can’t use that same narrative, but about, well, if you were with this particular person in this community, that type of stuff won’t happen. And what I’m saying is no, you judge people on a case by case basis, it’s not the complexion of the person. It is their mentality, how they communicate the trauma, and all the type of stuff that they have buried within them. If they’re constantly irrational and emotional all the time. That’s somebody that you should avoid and not be around. It’s not a race thing. It is a class thing. It’s an emotional maturity thing. And it is way more multifaceted. And people want to do they just want to keep it on the surface level. What would people say to this, this man here, this black man who was who was killed in a alleged domestic violence incident? Is he going to get the same justice and the same type of media coverage as somebody from another community, or somebody that was shot by somebody from a different community? I think that’s bull crap, that people even take race into consideration with something like murder.

But it’s obvious that people do. And I think that’s unfortunate.

So I’m going to be monitoring this case.

And I’m going to reserve judgment to all of the facts come out. However, I do find it pretty interesting. That self defense is like the blanket term that’s being used a lot of the times in these cases

with a female, shooting a male

no signs of abuse. There’s a motive that she wanted to get them out of the place. She’s doing Google searches on evictions.

He just so happened to come up dead shot in the temple the same day, but she didn’t know the status of him but he was shot in the temple.

Do you find that a bit strange? I know I do.

But I wonder if there’s gonna be other people talking about this. I wonder if anybody’s gonna have something bad to say about my perspective on this when she’s innocent until proven guilty. I’m just laying out the facts. I got the sources right there to talk about what I’m talking about.

She was indicted yesterday.

But no, this doesn’t fit the common narrative that a lot of people are going with and I’m not about that. I’m not about sticking to the common narrative. I keep the same energy no matter what complex you are, no matter who you’re dating no matter what the situation is I’m gonna say one more time it’s not believe all women

it’s listen

to all people investigate, believe all truth. And that’s been another episode of the Karat Juice Podcast.
