“T” Tell A Story
What Are Podcasts ?
A podcast is a series of spoken word, audio episodes, all focused on a particular topic or theme, like cycling or startups. You can subscribe to the show with an app on your phone and listen to episodes whenever you like on your headphones, in the car, or through speakers. (Credit thepodcasthost.com)
Storytelling is the key ingredient to retaining and relating to your audience.

Why do we tell stories?
How do you foster connection, empathy, and understanding between people? Tell a good story, of course. (TED)
Stories bring people together.
Stories are a universal language of sorts. We all understand the story of the hero, of the underdog, or of heartbreak. We all process emotions and can share feelings of elation, hope, despair, and anger. Sharing in a story gives even the most diverse people a sense of commonality and community.
In a world divided by a multitude of things, stories bring people together and create a sense of community. Despite our language, religion, political preferences, or ethnicity, stories connect us through the way we feel and respond to them … Stories make us human. (Source Hubspot)
Storytelling Encourages The Active Imagination Of The Listeners.
In storytelling, the listener imagines the story. In most traditional theatre or in a typical dramatic film, on the other hand, the listener enjoys the illusion that the listener is actually witnessing the character or events described in the story.
The storytelling listener’s role is to actively create the vivid, multi-sensory images, actions, characters, and events—the reality—of the story in his or her mind, based on the performance by the teller and on the listener’s own past experiences, beliefs, and understandings. The completed story happens in the mind of the listener, a unique and personalized individual. The listener becomes, therefore, a co-creator of the story as experienced. So you want to get started podcasting and you don’t know where to start? I’m gonna help you out with that with some actionable tips that you can use to get started podcasting. So we’re gonna start with this, you need to bring the heat if you want to get started podcasting, what do I mean? Do I need to start cooking or something like that? No, hear me out. So you need to bring h, which is your hosting, you need to figure out where you’re hosting, where you’re going to host your podcast from. There’s multiple platforms, you can do some research on it, it’s not that hard to find. I’m going to give you five of them right now five, hosting platforms, that will be great. I’m hosting my podcast here, the Karat Juice Podcast via Anchor that’s affiliated with Spotify. You can also use stitch Stitcher, you could use Apple podcasts you could use. There’s other ones to remember here. There is Buzzsprout. So anchor Buzzsprout, overcast apple and Stitcher are five that you can use again, that is anchor Buzzsprout, overcast, Apple and Stitcher are hosting platforms. And what do they do? They are platforms that you can import. Some of them have editing software, where you can put your audio after you have recorded your episode, episode, and they distribute out your podcast to everybody. So you need to figure out hosting excuse me, they’ll push your RSS feed to all the various different places so that people can listen to your podcast, simple enough. Second thing he you need to bring entertainment value, what are you going to be bringing to the audience that is going to want to keep them listening? What are you adding to the listener? So the first step is hosting. The second one is entertainment, you need to be entertaining, if it’s an entertaining podcast, and you’re talking about trending topics, and things that are entertaining, that’s great. If you’re talking about education, if you’re talking about technology, true crime, whatever it may be, you need to make sure that your podcast is entertaining, and people are going to want to keep listening. How do you do that you learn how to edit, you make sure that you keep the attention span of people. So maybe don’t do a two or three hour podcast if you don’t have that much content to talk about. Don’t be afraid to bring the the time down. As long as you’re adding value and you’re keeping somebody’s attention. That’s what you want to do make sure that you’re keeping the listener in mind when you’re formulating your topic when you’re formulating your episodes. title as well as thinking about the audience the listener first is going to help you go a long way I wish I knew that before I got started. Okay, so we got hosting is one age. Second is E entertainment. And you also need to think about a which is audio. Audio is king. When it comes to podcast. You need to make sure that you invest in a quality microphone. It does not need to be a Shure SM seven is SMB no MV seven like I have here. This is like a $280 microphone. You do not have to do this right off the RIP. This is a bit overkill for somebody just starting out. But you can pick up a $50 mic microphone such as this. This is the zoom, ZD M one and this is a quality microphone. I’ll let you know what I’ll show you what it sounds like here. So this is the shore return up. This is the Apple short. This is the Zoom ZD M one that I’m speaking into right now this is a quality microphone. You could get by with this you can get this for like $50 or $60 I’m going to have an affiliate link to this in the description that I do get a commission called a commission on if you pick it up, but this is a quality microphone for somebody just getting started. Then you can see the difference isn’t me switching back to my shore in the seven, I know it’s smooth. And I have all of that going through a recorder, I have a zoom P8 as my recorder, that’s like a $500 recorder.
I’ll put the link to that in the description as well. But you do not need to get that that’s overkill, you can get something called the Zoom Podtrak P4, which is a really quality option to be able to record your audio, you can get one of those for $200. You can hook up a microphone through XLR, to be able to have the best quality audio. Now if you don’t have that, you can just use your phone to record you can also plug a mic if you have a USB mic like a Blue Yeti, directly into your computer and get audio that way, that’s fine when starting out. Because another thing that I want to talk to you about is you can also process your audio in post with software such as Audacity. There are also like some stuff you can do with Adobe Premiere, you can use Final Cut Pro, you can use GarageBand, it’s a lot of things you can do to process your audio. Even in some of the apps like in anchor, I can process my audio, edit cuts, all that type of stuff. So there are a lot of options for you if you dare to do the research and get the information. But make sure that you’re spending time on making sure that your audio is quality. Some ways that you can do that as far as your environment is you can record in a place in in your surroundings that doesn’t have a lot of background noise, people are not going to want to keep listening. If there’s a lot of excess noise. Also, you can actually record your show in the closet, if you need be people do that. It’s better to be in a room that has carpet because the sound doesn’t bounce. Try to do the best you can to sound damping with what you have. And you could do some additional research on that. So that’s a audio is king. And lastly, we need to talk about T which is tell a story. Storytelling is the most important thing you need to do when it comes to audio when it comes to entertainment as a whole. Why? Because we as human beings are drawn to stories. How many times have you been drawn in and sucked into a piece of content that you were listening to or watching a show on TV? Just because you got hooked at the beginning and you wanted to see how it was going to end? Well, you need to use that same philosophy when you are creating content online when you’re creating a podcast. So how can you tell stories that get better as storytelling? I’m learning on that and I’m developing. And what I’ve learned is you need to inject yourself in doses into what you’re talking about. You need to make sure that the audience can relate to you and ultimately resonate with you. So how can you do that? I’m going to show you how I’m going to let you know my story and how I got started with this podcast right here. When I was in college, and just growing up, I would always listen to audio books. I love Stephen King’s It was one of my favorite audio books growing up. And I just fell in love with the format of audio. And as I was going through that, I started reading books as well. And I just kept pulling and drawn back to audio. And I always said at some point, I want to write a book. But I mean your life gets busy. Writing is redundant. And it takes a lot of time. So I figured I could use podcasting as a way to express my thoughts to get my thoughts out there to tell stories about myself. And ultimately, I decided in February 2021 To start the Karat Juice Podcast. And here we now here we are now over a year later been going strong with the podcast. And I’m getting better each and every day at telling stories. But my story and the reason why I wanted to start this basically is I wanted to have a platform to be able to express my thoughts in real life. I’m not the most talkative, talkative person if you understand and I can’t even speak right there, but that’s okay.
I’m okay with making mistakes. I’m okay with stumbling over my words. And I think having your story and telling the truth about certain parts of yourself. You don’t have to disclose everything but it If you can bring somebody in, and let them know more about your story, and let people come along with you, and follow along with you in your path is going to help you to be able to resonate with an audience and ultimately, you know, grow a show, a platform and a community. So, as a podcast are getting wanting to get started, you need to bring the heat that is H hosting, that is E entertainment value, why should somebody tune in and listen to you. And a, your audio needs to be quality, you could start with a budget microphone like a Blue Yeti, or you can grab something like the Zoom ZDM-1. And that’s going to be a great thing to get started. Please don’t get started with just using the microphone on like your earbuds or something of that nature, if you must do that, but people are gonna tune out because people cannot stand bad audio, and t you need to tell a story. Storytelling is all about getting the audience to relate to you. And you can figure out different ways to do that. And it ultimately is just going to help people to be able to connect with you more because you want to have listeners who keep coming back for more because they want to see how you are progressing. You are the main ingredient of your podcast. So that’s been some tips that you can learn to get into podcasting if you enjoyed this content and you got some value out of it. Do me a favor as it really helps out a lot like the video, subscribe to the channel and if you are listening to just the audio version of this anywhere podcast gets played. It would really help me out if you did me a huge favor and went to either Apple podcasts, Spotify or whatever podcast platform you are listening to a leave me a rating and review with some feedback on what you think of the show without being too long winded. I am going to let you go and until next time, peace
