Yes, yes. Welcome. Welcome to another episode of Karat Juice. Thank you for taking the time to listen and join me today. A little housekeeping before we get started and we’ll get right into it. So, I’m your host Montay Lee, this is Karat Juice, we have real conversations here. It’s a place to relax, and enjoy yourself. So sit down, you know, grab a beverage that you like, eat some food, and indulge. Okay, some housekeeping before we get started. If you’re watching this on YouTube, go ahead and hit a like on the video, and subscribe if you’re enjoying the content. And feel free to share this with anybody that you would feel would enjoy this content. So I enjoy putting it out. So just make sure that you share it with anybody that you think would enjoy it. Okay, just adjust my mic a little bit. Okay. So here we go. Crease my volume a little bit. There we go. Okay, so the first thing that I wanted to talk about today, I wanted to talk about a conversation that I recently had with a friend the conversation revolved around purchasing an item. This item is typically one of the items that if you buy and you make the wrong decision, it can set you back for a long time. So yesterday, this person came by and we hung out, you know, the person was excited and just got a 2017 Chevy Malibu, you know, 20,000 Miles was very excited to get to make this purchase was first time ever buying a car? And I was like, yeah, it looks clean everything you know. Pause the drive all that. And after we had a beverage x more about the purchase come to find out. This person has spent $22,000 On this vehicle 2017 20,000 miles. Okay, cool. But then I peel back the layer more and ask what’s your payment going to be? Your car note? Man, I tell you this person told me they were going to be paying $550 per month
I cannot believe it. So my like brow furrows up and I said what? 550 you don’t have a BMW 550 You have a Chevy, a four-year-old Chevy. What’s going on? What is happening here? So as the conversation goes on, come to find out. This was his first time buying a car. He goes to the lot by himself. He ends up trading in his car, putting some money down like $1,500 or so. And before you know it, he’s got the paperwork in his hand. The car salesman aka snake oil salesman is saying oh yeah, this is gonna be great. We’re gonna get you financed no matter what we go into further detail about The loan because I asked more questions come to find out his interest rate is 21%.
You heard it right 21% My jaw dropped to the floor. So I was flabbergasted that there was a business out here, actually trying to give out loans to people with a 21% interest rate. That is a credit card interest rate. Look, luckily, this person had only had the car for two days, I told him, take it back, and he immediately it’s not worth it. You could walk with the amount of money you’re going to be paying for this car. When you add up the car note and then insurance, it’s not worth it. He heeded my advice. That’s what he’s going to be doing. Right now I want to talk about how this is even able to be allowed in the culture. They are selling people and this is an act more information about this place. It’s one of the places that has the banners out front that talks about we accept everybody, no credit needed, guaranteed to get a car. Always be wary. Okay, always be wary of something that seems like it’s too good to be true. In this instance, that is definitely too good to be true. So what I wanted to talk about, outside of that, mainly had to do with if you’re making a decision about a purchase, and then you’re not aware, or never had done it before, it’s probably in your best interest to seek guidance from somebody else that has already done it. Also to do some research, before making a big purchase, like what are the interest rates for somebody that has my credit score? What could I feasibly afford. When it comes to all my expenses, like my rent my food, all my necessities paid for? I feel like you shouldn’t be paying for a car that’s going to cost you more than 20% of your take home when it comes to after everything. 20% of take home pay per month. That should be the high limit of what you should pay for a car. And I still think that’s too much. But I just wanted to make people aware that there are snake oil salesmen out here, selling people a dream and really trying to put people in a bad situation. So just be wary of that. Buying a car that’s somewhat new is not a good investment at all. You would be better off just buying a used car, you can get a heck of a good car for $7,500 or less. I learned that from Dave Ramsey. A couple months back, I really started focusing on my financial health in a better way. And I just started binge watching all of the Dave Ramsey YouTube videos. They’re literally gold. So if you’re weary and could use some financial upkeep as far as your finances and things like that, that’s a great resource. So I just wanted to get started off with that story. Beware of the snake oil salesmen. If it seems like it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Alright, so we’re gonna move on with the program. Okay. So something I wanted to talk about today that I saw when I was strolling, like I usually do TMC. I saw that there was a shooting last night in Kentucky. So the title of this article that I came across was Jack Harlow caught in the middle of deadly Louisville nightclub shooting. And it turned out deadly. So according to this article, Jack Harlow was feet away from what turned out to be a fatal shooting in Kentucky this weekend. In TMZ, got video of the moment shots were fired, and Jack was scrambling.
So first thing I want to say about this is why go out to a place where people are looking to have a good time and start shooting, I just, I just don’t understand the logic behind it. People are going out to have a good time, you know, to enjoy life. And it’s your decision to go take a firearm and shoot. I just don’t understand it. Like and this isn’t even a thing about gun control. It’s just like, I feel like the human nature of people has devolved in a way recently to where it’s like. Rather than handling your problems and addressing conflicts that you might have going have going on within yourself, you’re resorting to a firearm, to honestly to me that’s weak. That’s not something that a person that has confidence in himself does. Somebody that has confident confidence within themselves. and a high self esteem is not going to resort to that you know what they’re going to do. They’re going to look at themselves, they’re going to look at the problem. And then they’re going to solve it in a healthy and productive manner. Now, I am aware that there are times when deadly force is needed in life and then when you do need to protect yourself, but out at a nightclub. First of all, you don’t need to be there. That’s a recreational thing. And this is just tragic. So let’s go on in the article. The rapper who hails from the Louisville area, was partying at a place in town called vibes restaurant in Ultra Lounge, which was throwing a shindig in honor of the Kentucky Derby which is currently going on something that Jack himself had attended earlier in the day Friday. So people are in town they’re in Kentucky enjoying the Derby, you know, there’s a lot of partying going on festivities, things like that. Furthermore, later that night, he stopped in and ultra lounge where he was filmed vibing out near the stage. In the video, it looks like an altercation unfolded with a woman and at least one man who then started who then start leaning into each other before falling over in a scuffle. So this was between a man and a woman
goes on to say right at that moment. You hear what sounds to sound to be a gunshot go off and everyone starts making a run for it. Including Jack. It doesn’t appear he was injured. But we got calls in to his rep to make sure
so it also goes on to say it was unclear what exactly led up to the violence or who shot is sadly ended. With someone losing their life. Police said a woman was found dead from the shooting in a man was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No suspects had been arrested. So a woman lost her life in Kentucky. I don’t know the particular circumstances but this is unacceptable. Somebody lost their life. Why are having a good time in Kentucky. We have to do better people. Just as a culture. start addressing your problems without violence. show some compassion show some restraint. Every situation does not have to go from zero to 100. Because your pride or you know, something you feel is yours is being disrespected. I mean, I just harken back to those stories where like, somebody gets somebody steps on somebody’s shoes and then they want to shoot, kill fight each other. It’s not healthy. It’s not it’s not what we were put on this earth to do. So so want to say condolences to that woman’s family. Hope whoever shot this lady is brought before the law and prosecuted and due process plays its course.
Alright, so before we move on, we have a message from the sponsor. So we’re going to do that now. And then we’re gonna move on with the show. Okay. Secondly, have you guys seen the new craze? Like what’s been happening on YouTube and Internet recently? A lot of people have been talking about what’s been going on with Billy Eilish. So me personally, I’ve enjoyed a couple of her singles but for the most part, I don’t think she’s that talented. I just kind of feel like she’s kind of whispering over tracks. Let me demonstrate. Let me demonstrate. Using me, girl, Maggie here already? Oh, no. I don’t have a singing career. Sorry. But no, what I’m trying to say is, I feel like she just kind of whispers over tracks and she kind of has that sleepy delivery. I mean, some people like it, but for me, it’s, it’s kind of overdone. So what’s been going on recently, this article is courtesy of complex. It’s entitled Billy Eilish on body image and style transformation. My thing is that I can do whatever I want. So Billy Eilish is known for kind of having a Goth look. Black crane hair, always wearing baggy clothing, not revealing much and her fans have grown to know her as a bat. And when she first came onto the scene, she was a teen, you know, started making music like around 13 or something like that. So now she’s 19 and she’s starting the show more stuff. Okay. So she’s on the June 2021, Vogue cover, and she apparently has a revamped look for her next full length album, which is happier than ever. Okay. So in the article, you can look it up, I’m gonna put it on the in the show notes. She’s wearing a corset like a pink corset with a skirt. And she’s kind of got like a pinup model thing going on. Okay. So she, let me just quote some of this article. So for the June cover of British Vogue, the 19 year old singer ditched her trademark neon green highlights and oversized clothes for blonde hair, which he first revealed on Instagram in mid March in form fitting pieces. Billy says I feel more like a woman somehow and she told Vogue of her hair as her clothes. She went the way of a classic, old timey pinup where she’s outfitted in a variety of course that’s She also says I’ve literally done not done never done anything in this realm at all. You know, besides when I’m alone in ish So I don’t really see what the problem is. But apparently she has haters who knew. So, apparently there’s fans, followers and haters, who are used to Billy, you know, dressing in baggy silhouettes that conceals her body. And that’s been like a sticking point of our entire career. are apparently demonizing her whenever she wears anything revealing. So this is where it kind of goes off the rails a little bit for me, like, You’re famous part of being famous is receiving criticism that is good, and that is bad. Nobody, nobody is ever going to like everything that you do. That’s not something that you should strive for in life. Yeah, if you were some things that are more revealing, you’re going to get positive attention and negative attention. But at the end of the day with something like this, and I’m participating in that.
Celebrities and stuff, they put stuff out like this so they can get attention, good or bad. She has an upcoming album, she wants to controversy, even though in this article, she’s saying that she doesn’t. I just don’t like when people are disingenuous with it. Just be honest, you’re wearing stuff that is a little more revealing to get her eyes. Nobody’s saying you’re a bad person, nobody’s saying that. That you are, you know, doing anything wrong, just acknowledge that you are dressing a bit more revealing and things like this in this cover to get more attention, right from new viewers, because you have your happier than ever. album coming out. I just don’t like when people like are trying to play both sides of the field. And that’s what I feel like she’s doing here in this in this instance. So she goes on to say this is let’s see. So she goes on to say in an interview that she talks about the concept of body positivity. So she says she’s never claimed body positivity. As the reason for a pastel choices, she says, if you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body she said, anticipating the reaction to her Vogue shoe. My thing is that I can do whatever I want. And that is true. You can do whatever you want. But part of doing whatever you want, means you’re going to get feedback, either positive or negative from people. That’s That’s called life. So you can’t be a famous person and not expect people to react to talk about you. That’s what you signed up for when you became famous. Sorry. You know, you can’t say put on music, and put out and get fame, and then expect some people to not say anything, like what are we talking about. She also goes on to say it’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery, if you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing effet. If you feel like you look good, you look good. Amen. Go ahead, wear what you want to wear. It’s all good. All right, now this is where she kind of goes off the rails. So she quotes suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin and you’re easy, and you’re in S word slut and you’re a W H O R E. If I am then I’m proud. Me and all the girls are hoes and eff it you know. So let’s turn it around and be empowered in that showing your body and showing your skin or not, should not take any respect away from you. So she’s just going everywhere, like okay, you’re wearing things that are more revealing. People are gonna say stuff on social media. I feel like in this day and age people are so sensitive and have gotten sensitive over time, like this generation is this Gen Z generation she is where they’ve had social media their whole lives. But they’re the most sensitive to it like I am from an error and from an age where I remember when social media started like I remember before it like became prevalent when you call it somebody you didn’t know. You had to look at the caller ID before you knew who were calling and actually people actually called and use something called a telephone and talked on the phone with one another. But the Gen Z generation they’ve had social media Instagram, Facebook You know, Snapchat, you name it their entire lives, but they are like the most impacted by it. Like, it’s not for you like, yeah, there’s people behind those screens but it doesn’t matter as much as the people that are your friends and your family people that rock with you in and around you all the time. So the article goes on to say she dropped a single your power. And in the song It challenges abusers and those who exploit underage kids. Well, that’s a good message, I would say. So, apparently, the pandemic gave her some time off to make her forthcoming album. In her brother’s Finneas home studio, where she learned to love songwriting once again and learn to engineer.
Oh, and she goes on to say, I’ve grown so much and gotten so much better in my voice. It’s crazy to think about. I think change is one of the best things in the world. Okay, so she changes that whispering. We might be on to something. Because I’m okay. Okay, huh? No, um, no, that’s not gonna work. Billy. Let’s get some. Let’s get some notes. I mean, I’m from the era of Adina Howard, Adele, okay… Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, can I get some bars? Can I get some? And we’ll always love you. Alright, maybe it sounds better when Whitney does it, but you know what I mean? Okay, so we got one more message from the sponsor, and then we’ll wrap this show up. Okay. All right. Lastly, let’s get into this and I want to talk about this. Okay. So I saw an article on Apple news. Also from complex and it’s entitled Caitlyn Jenner opposes trans girls competing in female sports. We have to protect girls sports in our schools. So that title is a bit misleading. Okay. Because Caitlyn Jenner actually said that, let me find it so I get the exact quote
actually, see, like, that’s you got to look at titles there differently. The title is saying Caitlyn Jenner says trans girls who were by a lot like so. Okay, yeah. So this is what she actually said. This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans from competing in girls sports in school. She goes on to say it just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls sports in our school, a man. Okay, whatever you are biologically born, as is what you should be playing as a sport. This is not about your human rights. This is not about like, you still have all the human rights. You know, as far as all of that, but sports is a needs to be a level playing field. And science has told us and taught us that men are more physically gifted than women are. So it’s not fair for women to be to be competing against man. I don’t know if you guys have heard about this and seeing these different things that have gone on. But there has been some trans women who have gotten to the ring and obliterated some women in fight. Okay, here it is January 31 2019. So, if you guys haven’t heard about this so if you don’t know about Fallon Fox, well known transgender female wrestler. Okay. She fought a woman. She originally came out in March 5 2013 as transgender okay. And Let’s see here there is a fight that she had where the C and E find it
here it is
so apparently here Fallon Fox fought to Mecca, Brent at Capital City cage wars. And she, during this fight, she beat her so severely was, and this person was born a biological man beat the female opponent so bad that she suffered a broken skull. So in fighting sports, it’s no comparison. Even if you’re taking all of the gender What do you call it? hormones and stuff. You were born a boy, you have physical gifts that a woman just doesn’t have. And then there’s also the argument as well, that comes along with the scholarships for women. Okay, like in track and field, transgender athletes are smoking women in track and field that are participating. And that’s taking scholarships opportunities away from biologically born women. If you want to compete in sports, and you’re trans, what, what I would say is, you should probably you should compete with the men, you are biologically born as a boy, a man. So that’s kind of like my take on that. You don’t have to like it, but it’s my take. It’s my show. Okay. So, with that being said, I want to thank everybody for taking the time to listen to the 11th episode of Karat Juice. Make sure if you haven’t already, it’s free. Go ahead and hit a like on the video. Subscribe if you haven’t already. And yeah, make sure to share the show with anybody you think we’re like it. With that being said, make sure that you’re taking accountability and trying to get better by one degree each and every day, read something. Eat something, try a new recipe. It’s getting better and nicer outside. So make sure you’re hitting the gym and trying to hit your goals. I’m going to be posting some more content on my social media and whatnot and YouTube about recipes and food that I’m eating and I might even post some workout content to just like all the time. So with that being said, eat something good. Love Somebody, hug somebody. And then I will speak to you guys in the next one. Peace.
